My Evening Ritual: How I Slow Down, Let Go & Come Back to Myself

How a few intentional moments can help us release the day and make space for rest.

Why We Need an Evening Ritual

There is a different kind of beauty at the end of the day.

The world gets quieter. The lights become softer. The things that seemed so urgent in the morning often don't feel quite as important.

And if I'm honest, I think we need that pause now more than ever.

We live in a world that rarely asks us to stop. There is always another notification, another headline, another email, another thing to accomplish. We can carry the entire world around with us right up until the moment our head hits the pillow.

I've done it myself.

As a mom, I've spent decades being needed. As a grandmother, I've discovered an entirely new kind of love and perspective. And as the founder of Lifetherapy, I've spent years thinking about what it means to create products and experiences that help people feel better in the middle of real life.

But somewhere along the way, I realized something important: restoration doesn't always require a retreat. Sometimes it begins at home, in five quiet minutes.

Creating a Little Hospitality for Yourself

That idea feels very familiar to me because of my hospitality background.

Hospitality has always been about more than serving someone something beautiful. At its heart, it is about creating a feeling. A feeling of being welcomed. A feeling of being cared for. A feeling that, for a moment, you don't have to do everything yourself.

I believe our evening rituals can offer us that same feeling.

They can become a way of offering ourselves a little hospitality at the end of a full day

My Evening Ritual

For me, my evening ritual begins by lighting Transformed Candle. The fragrance changes the atmosphere and signals something to me: the day is done.

Then I draw a warm bath and use Grounded Bubbling Bath. I let the water do some of the work of slowing me down. I breathe. I soak. I think about what went well, what didn't, and what I am willing to leave behind.

Then comes Loved Lotion.

There is something meaningful about physically caring for yourself at the end of the day. After spending so much of our lives caring for other people, it can be a quiet reminder that we deserve our own tenderness, too.

And I finish with Grounded Handcréme

It is such a simple thing. But sometimes the simplest things are the ones that become meaningful because we repeat them.

That is what I love about a ritual. It doesn't have to be complicated to matter.

Why Scent Matters

I've come to think of an evening routine less as a list of things to complete and more as a self-care ritual that helps me release the day and reconnect with myself.

And fragrance is an important part of that for me.

Scent has a way of changing the atmosphere around us, but it can also change the way we experience a moment. A familiar fragrance can become a signal to slow down, breathe more deeply, and return to ourselves.

That is part of what inspired the Lifetherapy Choose Your Mood™ philosophy.

Because our moods are not always something we can control. Life happens. Days are complicated. Some days are joyful, some are exhausting, and some are simply a little too much.

But we can create small rituals that help us move through them.

Letting the Day Go

Maybe your evening ritual is a warm bath. Maybe it is lighting a candle and reading a few pages of a book. Maybe it is putting your phone away for ten minutes. Maybe it is moisturizing your hands before you climb into bed. Maybe it is simply taking one deep breath and saying, "I did enough today."

Whatever it looks like, I believe we all need a way to come home to ourselves.

And tomorrow will bring whatever tomorrow brings.

Tonight, we can let today be today. We can release what we cannot change, be grateful for what we can, and give ourselves permission to rest.

Because restoration isn't something we earn after we've done everything. Restoration is part of how we keep going.

Perhaps the most beautiful ritual of all is learning to give ourselves the same care, grace, and hospitality that we so freely give to everyone else.

So tonight, before you reach for one more email or one more scroll, create a few moments that belong only to you. Light something, draw a bath, breathe, nourish your skin, let the fragrance linger, and let the day go.

You don't have to carry everything into tomorrow.
